Today, SoundThinking announced the launch of Response Time Reporting and Ground Truth, two new ShotSpotter features. Twenty-eight cities are already using insights from the new features to help local law enforcement agencies track and measure their performance in meeting and exceeding their respective public safety goals, particularly with regard to improving response times and evidence collection.

Let’s take a closer look at both features.

Response Time Reporting

Currently, most command staff looking for insight into how quickly their officers are responding to gunshot alerts must sift through CAD systems, which can be difficult to access and time-consuming to find the information you’re looking for.

ShotSpotter’s Response Time Reporting feature enables agencies to easily monitor how quickly they respond to gunfire incidents. Critical performance data around the speed of response broken down by beat and district is now easy to access and track with a few mouse clicks.

Ground Truth

Aiding victims and collecting evidence are both critical metrics for departments to evaluate when they cumulatively assess their agency’s gunfire response performance. ShotSpotter’s Ground Truth capability makes this much easier to track. With this feature, officers can enter information regarding ground truth they find at a scene (such as a victim, shell casings, or property damage), and they can enter that information directly in the application, making evidence collection easier to track. All Ground Truth information is updated in real-time and instantly visible to all users of ShotSpotter, such as investigators, command staff, and crime analysts.

“The Ground Truth functionality has substantially enhanced the capacity to monitor the quantity of recovered evidence and the provision of medical assistance. With just a few clicks of a button, an officer can furnish investigators with on-scene investigation data for further examination,” said Captain Amy Gauldin of the Winston-Salem Police Department. “Crime analysts can also leverage this information to assess the quantity of collected evidence and the extent of medical assistance rendered.”

What These New Features Represent

Response Time Reporting and Ground Truth represent our commitment to innovation and further reinforce why many customers consider ShotSpotter the best gunshot detection system on the market. As a pioneer in acoustic gunshot detection, ShotSpotter can help agencies swiftly respond to gunfire incidents, save lives, and collect evidence.
