The implementation of ShotSpotter technology across multiple cities in Los Angeles County has significantly enhanced law enforcement’s ability to respond swiftly and effectively to gun-related incidents. By providing real-time, pinpointed alerts of gunfire, ShotSpotter in LA County enables officers to arrive at crime scenes faster, resulting in more lives saved, improved evidence collection, and enhanced public safety. Pasadena, Hawaiian Gardens, Lancaster, and Lakewood have all seen positive results from deploying this life-saving technology, demonstrating its value as a crucial crime-fighting tool.
Pasadena
Since its deployment in February 2022, ShotSpotter has been an invaluable resource for the Pasadena Police Department, helping officers respond rapidly to gunfire incidents. Thanks to ShotSpotter, the Pasadena Police have been able to locate victims quickly, provide emergency medical aid, and secure critical evidence. Between 2022 and the first quarter of 2025, ShotSpotter has led officers in Pasadena to over 400 gunfire incidents, where they located 21 victims. Pasadena Police Chief Gene Harris highlights ShotSpotter’s ability to improve officer safety by ensuring they arrive at crime scenes with accurate and timely information.
Lancaster
Lancaster has fully integrated ShotSpotter into its hybrid policing model, reinforcing its commitment to public safety. In 2024, the ShotSpotter system provided 366 confirmed alerts, allowing officers to respond to gunfire incidents with precision. Additionally, ShotSpotter has played a key role in helping law enforcement link shell casings to crime scenes and offenders. The technology has also been instrumental in combatting gang violence and illegal firearm activity, making Lancaster a safer place to live and work.
Hawaiian Gardens
Hawaiian Gardens has experienced a notable reduction in violent crime, partly due to ShotSpotter’s rapid alerts. In 2023 alone, ShotSpotter generated 176 alerts, resulting in the recovery of crucial evidence and 18 witness statements that might not have been gathered otherwise. This technology enables law enforcement to respond quickly – even if 911 calls are not received about the gunfire, fostering increased community trust and more effective policing.
Lakewood
Lakewood’s adoption of ShotSpotter has enabled law enforcement to respond to 52 confirmed gunfire incidents in 2024, resulting in faster investigations and enhanced crime prevention efforts. By providing real-time gunshot detection, officers can act swiftly to secure crime scenes, locate suspects, and assist victims.
